Photonics France announces the new mapping of the French photonics industry. This study shows a strong growth of the French photonics industry with an increasing turnover, number of companies and number of employees.
The study carried out by Photonics France, the French federation of the photonics industry, shows the important weight of photonics in France with a growth of + 40% in 5 years, i.e. 6 times more than any other sector of the manufacturing industry. The 1,100 companies identified have a turnover of around 19 billion euros, a strong sign of the attractiveness of this sector.
The French photonics sector is a booming technological sector whose jobs have grown by 12 % over 5 years, compared to a very weak growth in jobs in all industrial sectors. Thus, in 2018, the sector accounted for 73,000 jobs throughout France.
This study, although based on 2018 data, shows that since 2013 the French photonics sector has been expanding rapidly. The figures show very clearly that the sector continues to grow faster than the others. An update will be published at the end of 2021.
