Active Silicon Launches 100 Gbps FireBird CoaXPress over Fiber Frame Grabber

Active Silicon has launched the FireBird 1xCOF-100G, a high-performance CoaXPress over Fiber frame grabber developed for vision systems requiring greater bandwidth, faster image acquisition and reliable long-distance transmission.

The new frame grabber provides a QSFP28 port supporting data rates up to 100 Gbps across four 25 Gbps lanes. Its PCI Express 4.0 x8 interface enables real-time transfer of high-resolution image data to the host system. This ensures maximum system throughput for bandwidth intensive applications such as inspection, scientific imaging, medical imaging and sports analysis applications.

CoaXPress over Fiber allows high-speed image transfer and camera control over a single fiber-optic connection. Depending on the selected transceiver, cameras can be located multiple kilometres from the control PC, ideal for installations requiring long cable runs. Additionally, fiber optic transmission provides immunity to electromagnetic interference, maintaining reliable image data transfer in electrically noisy industrial environments.

Active Silicon’s proprietary ActiveDMA technology delivers extremely low-latency image transfers with zero CPU intervention. The board provides comprehensive I/O - even more flexible than previous iterations with the new ActiveFlex-IO. It also features up to 8GB buffer memory, full GenICam support and compatibility with ActiveSDK for Windows and Linux system development.

As one of the primary authors and ongoing developers of the CoaXPress standard, Active Silicon brings trusted expertise to CoaXPress over Fiber technology. This first-hand knowledge underpins the design of reliable, innovative imaging products for demanding machine vision applications. Development of additional frame grabbers is ongoing and further products will be announced soon.
