Laser Components is now offering its own line of fibre-optical cables. The product portfolio includes indoor and outdoor cables: from simplex cables to duplex cables to multi-channel breakout cables that are compatible with standard connector systems. Customer solutions can be developed as well.
Step-index fibres with a high coupling efficiency are used in the cables. Therefore, they allow the application of inexpensive emitter and receiver components. The numerical aperture is 0.37; the diameters of standard cables include 2.2 millimetres (mm), 2.5mm and 3.0mm.
The variety of cable materials includes polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polyethylene (PE) and polyurethane (PU). Even Optical Fibre Nonconductive Riser (OFNR)/Optical Fibre Nonconductive Plenum (OFNP) classified materials with low-smoke characteristics are available: low smoke zero halogen (LSZH), Riser and Plenum.
Most cables can be delivered both with and without aramid yarn for strain-relief purposes. A strain relief should be used with SubMiniature version A (SMA) and Straight Tip (ST) connectors.
