The 7th International Summer School New Frontiers in Optical Technologies will take place on 5-9 August 2013 at Tampere University of Technology in Tampere, Finland. The event is biennial and will build on the success of previous summer schools. In 2011 the summer school attracted a record 208 participants from 29 countries.
This is probably the largest summer school in Europe concentrating on photonics, says project manager Lasse Orsila from the Optoelectronics Research Centre (ORC). In 2013 the school will once again offer students and researchers the opportunity to exchange scientific ideas, create contacts and gain inspiration from leading professionals at the cutting edge of optical technology.
A preliminary list of topics for the summer school includes: lasers and ultrafast phenomena; nanophotonics and plasmonics; novel materials; terahertz (THz) technology; and photonics applications and industry. The lectures will be given by 11 professionals from academia and industry: Professor Ursula Keller, ETH, Switzerland; Prof. Peter Nordlander, Rice University, Houston, Texas (US); Prof. Andrea C. Ferrari, University of Cambridge, UK; Prof. Edmund H. Lindfield, Leeds University, UK; Prof. Henning Riechert, Paul-Drude-Institute for Solid State Electronics, Berlin, Germany; Dr. Rüdiger Paschotta, RP Photonics, Bad Dürrheim, Germany; Prof. Magnus Willander, Linköping University, Linköping, Sweden; Dr. Bert Offrein, IBM Zürich Research Laboratory, Zürich, Switzerland; Prof. Wolfgang Elsäßer, Darmstadt University of Technology, Darmstadt, Germany; Prof. Eli Kapon, École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, Lausanne, Switzerland; and Carlos Lee, European Photonics Industry Consortium (EPIC), Paris, France.
Registration is now open. Please note that the number of students is limited, so early registration is recommended.
