Balluff Inc. has released the new Balluff Vision Sensor (BVS) Universal, which boasts an impressive list of capabilities, according to the company. Able to read multiple codes simultaneously, up to 40 codes per second can be located, read and verified in any orientation. BVS Universal can perform 360° part-position detection, defect-finding, contour-based counting and matching, barcode-reading (linear and 2D data matrix [DM]), and an optical character verification (OCV) function that can verify printed sequences of characters and numbers, such as batch numbers or minimum shelf life dates.
Available in 6-millimetre (mm), 8mm and 12mm lens versions with built-in visible red or infrared (IR) ring light, the product features a serial port, digital input/output (DIO), an Ethernet TCP/IP port and 640×480 resolution. The BVS Universal includes a powerful 360° algorithm, providing performance much like that of higher-priced vision systems but in a simpler, smaller package at a lower price, according to the company. Suitable for a wide range of applications, the BVS Universal can be used for assembly and presence control, reading and verification of codes and advanced part-position detection.
