CAM-Service introduces Cagila 3D software at Laser World of Photonics 2013, which takes place this week at the Messe München. CAM-Service is exhibiting in hall C2, booth 557.

To edit 3D computer-aided design (CAD) data, CAM-Service provides 3DSync software from Siemens PLM as a CAD option. 3DSync is based on the 3D CAD System SolidEdge.

The programming of NC laser paths in Cagila 3D is based on the curves and edges of the 3D solid model, while allowing the user to define variable cutting angles and supporting 4-axis to 5-axis simultaneous processing.

In addition to NC controls with kinematic transformation (e.g., Beckhoff-ISG and Sinumerik 840D), Cagila 3D also provides intelligent post-processors for NC controls that do not support kinematic transformation (e.g., Aerotech A3200 and PMAC). This helps to maintain a constant surface speed of the laser focus on the work piece, the company reports. A real NC simulation with collision detection aids in achieving error-free processing by the laser machine.

As with Cagila 2D software, Cagila 3D provides an easy-to-use user interface. For layer-based ablation or deposition of 3D solids, Cagila 3D provides a so-called "Slicing module." This module generates 2D spline-based curves per plane for subsequent NC processing of 2.5D ablation or deposition by Cagila 3D.

Cagila 3D features sophisticated algorithms that generate some 100,000 lines for contour hatching within a few seconds and optimise the tool path for high speed laser processing by scanners.

In case of constant Z profiles, Cagila 3D is able to process 2.5D NC files by extruding simple 2D Drawing Exchange Format and Drawing (DXF/DWG) depictions.

Other functions of the Cagila 3D software include high-speed perforation/drilling of faces, as well as intelligent path-planning for parallel processing of large contours by several lasers (e.g., cutting filters from a textile coil by four laser scanners). The nesting module, with its savings of material waste for sheet and coil, is now available to support multicore CPU processing for better performance and nesting results.

In addition to common data formats, such as standard for the exchange of product model data (STEP), initial graphics exchange specification (IGES) and VDA surface interface (VDAFS), Cagila 3D supports interfaces for popular native formats, such as SolidWorks, Solid Edge, NX (Siemens), Catia, ProEngineer and Autodesk Inventor.
