According to the company, Gugolz Polishing Pitch is made from all-natural wood resin, rather than petroleum by-products, and comes in five grades from very soft to very hard with melting points from 52°C to 87°C (~126°F to ~189°F). Sliced, melted and poured onto a lap, the pitch carries abrasives and presents them to the optic’s surface to create its finish, claims Meller Optics.
Suitable for carrying aluminium-oxide, cerium-oxide and diamond slurries, Gugolz Polishing Pitch helps prevent contamination of the polishing media and optics because it is natural. This pitch eliminates the need for screening, filtering or mixing additives and all hardness grades are fully compatible and consistent to let users achieve their own grade of hardness.
