Newport Corporation has extended its portfolio of achromatic quartz magnesium-fluoride (MgF2) wave plates. The new wave plates have been optimised for the Spectra-Physics Insight laser and other tuneable ultrafast lasers. The 10RP52-4 and 10RP54-4 are designed for a broad wavelength range of 650 nanometres (nm) to 1350nm with either λ/2 or λ/4 retardations. Safely enclosed in a 1-inch diameter black anodised aluminium housing, both new zero-order wave plates provide a clear aperture of 12 millimetres (mm).
The two birefringent crystals feature a highly efficient broadband antireflection coating in an air-space design. This construction ensures excellent transmitted wave-front quality, while minimising beam deviation and surface reflection losses. Because of the air-space design, Newport’s achromatic zero-order quartz-MgF2 wave plates have a higher damage threshold than achromatic polymer film wave plates.
As ultrafast amplifiers evolve to higher and higher powers, there is a need for larger diameter optics with broadband performance. Newport also addresses this need with larger diameter achromatic zero-order quartz-MgF2 wave plates with 1.5-inch diameter housings, 30mm clear aperture and a wavelength range of 700nm to 1000nm.
