The new Digital Laser Controller (DLC) for Toptica’s tuneable diode laser DL Pro sets low noise and drift levels for the laser. The DLC also provides touch control and remote operation to run and frequency-stabilise the laser.
The DLC Pro comes with laser diode current, temperature and piezo drivers with noise and drift properties. It boosts the performance of Toptica’s established tuneable diode laser DL Pro, which runs with more stability and lower line widths down to 10 kilohertz (kHz). For active frequency stabilisation, the DLC Pro provides dual proportional-integral-derivative (PID) and lock-in control.
The user can operate the DLC Pro via knobs, buttons and a capacitive touch display. A personal computer (PC) software and command-line interface allow remote operations via Ethernet or universal serial bus (USB). The DLC Pro can directly display signals from an experiment replacing additional external oscilloscopes. Using the signal display, the user can intuitively adjust scan parameters, for example, via multi-touch gestures.
The key features of the DLC Pro are: all-digital controller for Toptica’s DL Pro; low noise and precise control; convenient knobs and multi-touch user interface; remote PC graphical user interface (GUI) and command control; and intelligent locking features. Complex operations such as laser locking (Click&Lock) or Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) of the error signal can be performed remotely via PC or directly on the DLC Pro without any PC intervention. Advanced ReLock functions and other features from Toptica’s DigiLock are also integrated.
Experiments requiring a narrow line width (e.g., optical clocks or quantum computing with cold atoms and ions), as well as setups needing remote laser control (e.g., polar light detection and ranging [LIDAR]), will benefit from the DLC Pro. Toptica will demonstrate the DLC Pro at SPIE Photonics West 2014 on 1-6 February at the Moscone Centre (booth 723) in San Francisco, California (US).
