Point Grey, a specialist in high-performance digital cameras, announced the latest addition to its popular line of Blackfly Gigabit Ethernet (GigE) Vision cameras. The new Blackfly camera offers 5 megapixel (MP) resolution in a compact package.
The BFLY-PGE-50A2 camera utilises the popular MT9P031 (monochrome) and MT9P006 (colour) complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) sensors from Aptina and is capable of streaming full resolution 5MP images at 13 frames per second (fps). Region of interest functionality allows users to configure the sensor to output a smaller window of pixels at higher frame rate, such as high-definition (HD) 1080p (1920 × 1080) at 28fps. The MT9P031 and MT9P006 sensors offer a 1/2.5-inch optical format, making it compatible with a variety of small format, low cost, CS-mount optics (i.e., similar to a C-mount but much smaller), according to the company.
Like all other Blackfly camera models the BFLY-PGE-50A2 camera supports cable lengths of up to 100 meters (m) using GigE, third-party imaging library support using the GigE Vision standard and a host of features including Power over Ethernet (PoE), temperature and status monitoring, in-field updatable firmware, colour interpolation, lookup table, gamma and more.
With its combination of imaging performance, small 29 millimetres (mm) × 29mm × 30mm size, this new Blackfly camera is suitable for applications in machine vision and factory automation; scientific applications such as astronomy, microscopy and biophotonics; and visualisation applications such as video conferencing and kiosk imaging.
The Blackfly BFLY-PGE-50A2M/C-CS is priced at $325 (USD) or €245 (EUR). Monochrome and colour models are available to order now from Point Grey, its network of distributors and its North American, Eurozone and Australian web store.
