Specialised Imaging Ltd. has announced the Winter 2012 issue of Ultra High-Speed Update, a periodic e-newsletter dedicated to the latest technological developments, applications advances and breaking news in the world of ultra high-speed imaging.

In this latest issue of the e-newsletter, readers are given a preview of new capabilities being developed for the Specialised Imaging Multi-channel (SIM) Framing Camera to make fast ultraviolet (UV) measurements in the 200 nanometres (nm) to 600nm region and also to precisely measure the temperature at different points in a high-speed event. In addition to a selection of application abstracts and industry news, the newsletter also previews products recently introduced by the company.

A new “turn-key” Flash X-ray system capable of both conventional non-destructive testing (NDT) of materials and recording of dynamic high-speed events is detailed. The utilisation of modern hardware and enhanced software in the new system has made Flash X-ray analysis a faster, more efficient and more reliable process. Consequently, it has re-energised the potential uses to which this technology can now be applied.

Also described is the Kirana, a high-speed video camera that combines the flexibility of video technology with the resolution of an high-speed framing camera. Incorporating a proprietary hybrid camera sensor, the compact Kirana Ultra High-Speed Video Camera is able to deliver high resolution (924 × 768 pixels) and high speed (up to 2 million frames per second, fps) in a no-compromise design.

Targeted at aeroballistic studies, the Tracker2 system is a second generation version of the company’s popular Trajectory Tracker, which follows the flight of a fast-moving projectile. The new system can be used to track any moving subject at speeds from a few feet per second to tens of kilometres per second.
