Sydor Optics announced that it has received certification for the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) 9001:2008 quality management standards. This achievement provides Sydor’s US and international customers with a globally recognised standard of quality assurance.
Sydor Optics has operated in general compliance with the ISO 9000 standards since 2004. The company provides custom flat optics, such as glass wafers, mirrors, plate beam-splitters and windows for defence, entertainment, medical and semiconductor applications. This certification should save Sydor’s customers time during the qualification and audit stages of the procurement process.
The company worked with the Alliance for Manufacturing and Technology (AM&T) of Binghamton, New York (US) to perform the baseline audit in September 2012, which assessed any gaps between Sydor’s previous quality-management system and the ISO requirements. In November 2012 Sydor began working with AM&T to make the revisions to the quality management system needed to bring it into full compliance with the ISO standards. The final audit was concluded in June 2013 by NSF International.
Sydor Optics has continually made investments into metrology equipment to add capabilities and improve quality assurance. The company’s 2011 expansion included significant investments in metrology and automation. In 2012 the implementation of an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system further strengthened Sydor’s ability to monitor and control its optical manufacturing processes. Sydor Optics is also International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) registered.
