Fibercore, a UK-based global market specialist in the design and manufacture of specialty optical fibers announces Dr. Fernando Favero as Senior Measurement and Applications engineer joining the development team.
Fernando brings a wealth of experience in optical fiber development, design and fabrication, FBG inscription on standard fiber and PCF, as well as optical fiber sensor design and development.
Fernando earned a PhD from Pontificia Catholic University (PUC), Rio de Janeiro, Brazil where his thesis was on ‘Microstructure fiber optical sensors’.
Following his PhD, Fernando has held several positions as a researcher in leading photonics academic research groups, including recently at the University of Bath, UK where is has been designing, manufacturing and characterizing multicore fibers for endoscopy. At the IPHT in Germany, Fernando created new sensor fabrication techniques and created the world's shortest PCF Sensor. While as a visiting researcher at the Institute of Photonic Sciences in Barcelona, Spain, Fernando fabricated high temperature sensors for ESA (European Space Agency) aircraft using FBG (Fiber Bragg Grating) techniques.
