IEEE Photonics Conference 2016 Call for Papers

The IEEE Photonics Conference 2016 (IPC-2016) will be held 2–6 October, 2016 at the Hilton Waikoloa Village hotel in Waikoloa, Hawaii (US). The photonics industry’s fall technology event (formerly known as the IEEE LEOS Annual Meeting) seeks original technical presentations on photonic-related technologies such as lasers, displays, optoelectronic materials and components, optical fiber networks.

Paper submissions are due by 22 May 2016. 

More than 500 photonics scientists and engineers from around the world are expected to participate in this conference for light-related technologies involving quantum electronics, consisting of a program of technical presentations, special symposia, invited talks, weekend student and social events, and a product exhibition.

Five Special Symposia

Five special symposia featuring panels of invited experts will supplement the regular conference program in the following areas:

  • GaN-based Lasers – will address the latest developments in the field of III-nitride lasers, which show promise for a wide range of applications in the UV-visible spectrum, as well as projection displays, lasers, water purification and solid state lighting.
  • Microphotonic Gyroscopes – will review recent advances in microphotonic gyro development, with the objective of outperforming MEMS-based devices while maintaining their size, weight and power consumption characteristics.
  • Photonic Integrated Circuits for Microwave Photonics Applications – will address the latest developments in the fabrication and integration of photonic integrated circuits (PIC) components and systems, which are enabling new systems for the generation, processing, transmission, and reception of RF, microwave, mm-wave, and THz signals in highly integrated systems for new applications.
  • 2D Materials Nanophotonics – will gather experts to discuss the recent discovery of a new class of materials known as 2D crystals ‒ including graphene, transition metal dichalcogenides, boron nitride and black phosphorus ‒ which have inspired new nanophotonics devices across a wide electromagnetic spectrum, ranging from terahertz to the visible. Research seeks to understand their material properties, large-area growth and prospects for integration with industrial photonic solutions.
  • Compensation of Nonlinear Impairments in Transmission – will review the controversial topic of nonlinear impairment in fiber optic transmission – the long-standing impenetrable barrier that defined the Nonlinear Shannon Limit. Recent experimental results that break previously conceived limits in transmission have become a center of attention the fiber optic research community.
