
The Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) has announced Mark Lien as the new IES Industry Relations Manager, effective 4 April 2016. This position is new to the IES, established on the need to address the importance and expanding role of lighting in other organizations and industries. Lien will represent the IES in all joint-venture standards development activities with allied organizations, governmental agencies, and private industry interests. Lien will also be responsible for following industry trends and identifying new partnerships and alliance opportunities. Lien’s work will be under the direction of the Technical Director of Standards and, and he will work closely with the Director of Public Policy.
Mark Lien’s experience in the lighting industry
Lien has designed lighting systems for a wide range of applications including residential, retail, healthcare and both conventional and nuclear power plants. He has taught lighting courses throughout North America, Asia and the Middle East. He has served on the Board of Directors of the IES. He is also a member of multiple IES, NEMA, ALA and ASHRAE Committees and is a columnist for Lighting Design and Application (LD+A) Magazine, writing on the Forces of Change in the lighting industry. Lien serves as Chair of the NEMA Light Source Committee and Vice-Chair of the National Lighting Bureau. He was responsible for the educational centers at both Cooper and Hubbell Lighting and was the Director of Government & Industry Relations for OSRAM SYLVANIA in Danvers, Massachusetts (US).
