Oclaro 120 milliwatts (mW) laser diode offers precise control for industrial applications and is available now from the Optoelectronics Company. Oclaro’s HL63142DG high-power red laser diode offers an inbuilt monitor photodiode at a lasing wavelength of 637 nanometres (nm). It has a unique design that enables system designers to control optical power output by monitoring the photodiode current and adjusting power variants and temperature for precise control and constant performance.

Performance-monitoring capabilities are essential for maintaining constant laser output in situations that are subject to fluctuations in temperature and operating environment such as the construction industry and biomedical applications where consistency must be maintained over time.

This laser diode operates at a temperature up to 50°C (122°F) at 100mW in the 637nm visible wavelength band in a TO industry-standard 5.6 millimetre (mm) package with N-type pin configuration. It has low operating current and low operating voltage, which maintain low energy consumption even at 100mW high output power with TE mode oscillation and single transverse mode.

Oclaro (Opnext) has also introduced another new high-power red laser diode with built-in monitor photodiode. The HL65051DG 660nm laser diode is designed for applications such as laser imaging detection and ranging (LIDAR) and plastic optical fibre (POF) communications.

Utilising a proprietary design, the HL65051DG red laser diode is an addition to the Oclaro (Opnext) laser diode product family with built-in monitor photodiodes. Built-in monitoring allows control of the optical performance by monitoring the photodiode current and adjusting for temperature and power variants. Monitoring capabilities are needed to maintain constant laser output power in laser imaging detection, ranging applications and POF communications applications such as the automotive market.

The HL65051DG operates at a temperature range of up to 60°C (140°F) and delivers 120mW in the 660nm wavelength band in a 5.6mm diameter TO industry-standard package.

Oclaro (Opnext) has an expanded portfolio of laser diodes that now includes violet, visible and near-infrared (NIR) lasers that deliver innovation, quality and brightness. This comprehensive product line-up will enable customers to address a wide range of markets such as material processing, printing, medical, pumping, display, instrumentation and optical communications, as well as new consumer markets such as laser display, 3D sensing and optical interconnects.

Oclaro’s high-performance laser diodes are proven to consume a low operating current which extends battery life while maintaining the integrity of the laser diode power in a variety of applications such as range finding, line levelling construction systems and biomedical applications.

Through its merger with Opnext, Oclaro was able to add visible and violet laser diode solutions to its portfolio and, at the same time, strengthen Oclaro’s presence in Japan and Asia where key customers in the industrial and consumer markets are located. With this expanded portfolio, Oclaro (Opnext) can now provide infrared (IR) and violet laser diode solutions for computer-to-plate printing applications as well as red laser diodes for digital printing applications.

Oclaro (Opnext) high performance laser diodes are available through the Optoelectronics Company.
