Analytik, suppliers of analytical instrumentation, announced the availability of the TerraSpec Halo mineral identifier from PANalytical Boulder, formerly ASD Inc. Analytik announced the UK and Ireland release of the product, a lightweight, portable, full range near-infrared (NIR) spectrometer designed to revolutionise the mineral exploration process. With a simple push of a button, the TerraSpec Halo delivers mineralogy results in a matter of seconds, a rapid method to identify minerals and decrease associated exploration costs.
According to the company, the rugged TerraSpec Halo produces fast and accurate results displayed immediately on the instrument for the field or mine geologist requiring non-destructive contact measurements. Easy-to-use and with settings for non-geologists, the TerraSpec Halo provides mineralogy information for quick confirmation sampling at the mine and to direct field or drilling programs spontaneously. There is no need to download data into third-party software to see identification results as the instrument has already an extensive built-in mineral identification library.
TerraSpec Halo in the field
The TerraSpec Halo is a full-range NIR spectrometer measuring the visible and short wave infrared (SWIR) regions (350 nanometres, or nm) to 2500nm) and includes on-board Global Positioning System (GPS), an audio recorder and internal references for operations. It also features proprietary mineral identification software for fast data capture in the field and data management back in the lab or core shack. The reference library can be customised for your deposit or deposit type to improve measurement accuracy and speed. A custom-designed holster comes with the instrument for easy access in the field. The Halo is an all-in-one device; simply point, shoot and see the mineral results.
The applications for this tool include: mineral/energy exploration; alteration mapping; greenfields/brownfields exploration; outcrop; hand samples; drill cuttings; core logging; clay species analysis; and excavation wall confirmation.
