Minimally Invasive Devices Inc. (MID), a Columbus, Ohio (US) medical device company, announced that Mitsubishi Corporation has formally agreed to exclusively distribute MID’s FloShield laparoscopic and robotic visualisation system in Japan. MID anticipates that FloShield will be approved for sale in Japan in the second half of 2015.
Mitsubishi is also the exclusive distributor for Karl Storz GMBH & Co. (endoscopic instruments and devices) in Japan. FloShield will allow the companies’ surgeon customers to maintain a clear and consistent view during laparoscopic surgery, eliminating loss of vision and surgical interruptions, according to the company.
FloShield offers Active Lens Protection, a moving curtain of gas over the lens that prevents condensation, fluids and blood products from settling on the optics during surgery, according to MID, to maintain a clear surgical view for the operating team.
