Ximea xiD USB 30 Camera

Ximea GmbH is shipping xiD, which is a USB 3.0 bus-powered charge-coupled device (CCD) camera with resolutions from 2.8 megapixels (MP) to 12MP. Utilising the full potential of four taps of the sensor, Ximea cameras can achieve high speed while delivering high dynamic range and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) performance.

Ximea’s family of xiD USB 3.0 cameras combines Sony’s EXview HAD CCD II sensors with Ximea’s CleanPath readout and sensor-driving circuitry, resulting in a scientific imaging device with low readout noise and high fidelity in colour reproduction.

The xiD family features ICX674, ICX694, ICX814 and ICX834 sensors with resolutions of 2.8MP, 6.1MP, 9.1MP and 12MP delivering unique 60 frames per second (fps), 30fps, 20fps, 15fps, respectively, all at 14 bits per pixel.

All Ximea cameras support single, dual and quadruple tap readout modes of Sony sensors. For applications striving for a higher frame rate, the xiD family supports over-clocking modes with four taps and a 65 megahertz (MHz) pixel clock. In particular, ICX674-based 2.8MP model can run at more than 70fps.

Tap balancing technology developed by Ximea allows multi-tap imaging at diverse lighting, exposure and temperature conditions.

Mainstream xiD cameras are available in robust, compact, hard anodised housing with dimensions of 60 millimetres (mm) × 60mm × 38mm and consume 4 watts (W). This makes it possible to run the camera from a single USB 3.0 cable. Optionally, cameras can be delivered in a single board-level form factor for original equipment manufacturer (OEM) and embedded applications.

All Ximea xiD cameras benefit from software support: xiAPI, free application programming interface (API)/software development kit (SDK), which runs on Windows, Linux and Mac OS X and are compatible with more than 30 image-processing libraries. xiAPI makes deployment smooth and straightforward, according to the company. Standard features of the xiD family and the xiAPI include different binning and return-on-investment (ROI) modes, external triggering and flashlight synchronisation.

The family of xiD cameras is suitable for a range of applications: life and material sciences, microscopy, fluorescence, ophthalmology, pathology, histology, astronomy, flat panel inspection, printed circuit board (PCB) examination, intelligent traffic systems, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and more.
