High-end TV Display expects to be 30% of all TV display in 2025 in unit base, and 57% in revenues base according to Omdia’s latest 3Q20 Display Long-Term Demand Forecast Tracker.

The high-end TV Display are including the WOLED TV, Quantum Dot LCD TV (QLED), QD OLED TV, QNED TV, Mini LED backlight LCD TV, FALD backlight LCD TV and Micro LED TV display.

The TV display shipment is trending down on a unit base each year while the weighted average size is going up annually. The 2020 TV display shipment reach 276M, with 272M of LCD TV panel and 4.4M of OLED TV panel. The 276M is a 5% decline YoY from 2019. In 2021, it is expected the TV display panel shipment to reach 274M, with 1% YoY decline. The decline is due to the maturity of the TV market. However, on the TV display technology evolution and specification advance aspects, the TV display market is not mature yet with many new vivid new picture and form factor performance improvement technologies on the horizon.

The larger size TV display growth, the uplift of the weighted average size and the increase of the high-end TV display are all aligned with the growing forecast of the high-end TV display.

The high-end TV Display are including the WOLED TV, Quantum Dot LCD TV (QLED), QD OLED TV, QNED TV, Mini LED backlight LCD TV, FALD backlight LCD TV and Micro LED TV. These new technologies are bringing the greater specification and viewing experience for the end users and getting popular with the more efficiency cost.

The high-end TV display reach 7% of the total TV display market and Omdia expect the high-end TV Display will be reaching 30% in 2025, in unit base.

The key driving forces of these high-end TV display are attributed to the larger size trend, the cost reduction, the increasing capacity and technology availability and the improvement on the reliability and the components readiness. On the other hand, the consumers are gradually paying more attention to those picture performance and form factor enhances features with the responding cost premium, which is a good thing for the long-term growth of the high-end.

The LCD panel prices are going up and down cyclically but the high-end TV display ASP with the larger size and better specification will be crucial to enlarge the total market scale of the display, especially for those new technologies like OLED, Mini LED backlight, QLED and QD OLED and Micro LED display.

On the other hand, the total TV display revenue is expected to grow from $33.2 billion in 2020 to $47.4 billion in 2025. The high-end TV display will be playing a critical power to drive the TV display revenues to go up. The high-end TV display revenues will be reaching $27.1 billion in 2025, surpassing the standard LCD TV display revenues, and taking 57% of the total TV display revenues.

David Hsieh, senior director, displays research at Omdia, commented: “We see the whole TV display supply chain, from the component and materials suppliers, display manufacturers, Mini/Micro LED makers, backlight assemblers TV OEM ODM and retailers are more devoting to the high-end TV. OLED TV and QLED TV have won the heart of the premium TV consumers and keep expanding. 2021 can be viewed as the first year for the Mini LED Backlight LCD TV and QD OLED TV to start. In the long term, the Micro LED TV and QNED TV will take the top premium space. All of these are pointing to the promising future of the high-end TV display, which is viewed as great prospects to enhance the display revenues, enabling the display makers’ technology evolution and also nourish the high-end customer needs.
