MSU partnered with Wesco Distribution and EverLast Lighting and began the initial stages of a major lighting overhaul at the parking garage next to the premiere performing Arts Wharton Center

Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan (US) has adopted a strong sustainability initiative on their campus requiring the school to conform to challenging operating specifications. MSU relied on induction lighting to lower maintenance costs, increase campus safety, and maximize energy efficiency. In the fall of 2012, MSU partnered with Wesco Distribution and EverLast Lighting and began the initial stages of a major lighting overhaul at the parking garage next to the premiere performing Arts Wharton Center.

Due to the demands of the parking garage, and the imminent scheduling of events, the criterion for the lighting was very stringent. Facility managers at the Wharton Center were concerned about light levels, dimming capabilities, installation deadlines, reliability, and procuring a fixture that would meet the energy reduction and US-made requirements of Consumers Energy rebates, a local Michigan utility.

This past year, MSU moved forward with the advanced energy efficient lighting and replaced 480 high pressure sodium 175 watt fixtures with 70 watt EverLast Bi-Level Davenport garage fixtures in their Wharton Center parking garage. The SMART Bi-Level technology integrated into the EverLast  fixtures steps down the energy use in the campus parking garage to 40% power when areas are vacant for a set length of time allowing the MSU facility to achieve over 60% energy savings when compared to existing fixtures. The Wharton Center estimates annual savings of over $52,000 a year. Furthermore, safety in the garage is also expected to improve -- when the motion is detected and the higher light mode activated; the change in visual environment alerts occupants.

In addition, there are virtually no maintenance costs for up to 15 years on the EverLast fixtures offering the lowest lifetime cost of any light source on the market and the fastest ROI. MSU has utilized EverLast Lighting in several areas on their vast campus, installing over 1,000 fixtures to date. Installations have ranged from the East and West Recreational Campus buildings, and the Crop Science Building.

EverLast Lighting, Inc. is a sister company of Full Spectrum Solutions, Inc. and is a manufacturer of energy-efficient lighting solutions for roadway, parking structure, facility and area lighting applications.
