Identification System

AOptix, a technology innovation company that uses optics to verify identity and wireless communications, today announced results from the first 12 months of deployment of its identity verification systems in the State of Qatar. Itqan Technologies, a subsidiary of Itqan Holding, which provides comprehensive information technology (IT) solutions and services to the enterprise and government markets in Qatar, was the lead integration partner on the project.

Since July 2011, more than 80 AOptix iris-based identity verification systems have been deployed at all immigration points in Qatar, including Doha Airport, sea ports and the land border with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The AOptix systems are now providing identity verification for millions of travelers a year, speeding the process of moving through the immigration checkpoints. On average, it takes only four seconds for travelers to pass through the AOptix identity verification systems. The systems are effective in preventing non-authorized travelers from entering or exiting the country, ensuring security for passengers.

Qatar was the first country to establish comprehensive entry/exit iris-based identity verification for all people moving through its immigration checkpoints. “The AOptix iris recognition systems enable us to provide security for travelers while still ensuring a smooth flow of passengers through our country’s air, sea and land borders,” said Brigadier Saleh Al Kubaisi, head of the IT systems department of the Qatar Ministry of the Interior, which is responsible for the development and implementation of the latest technologies and security systems.
